Join us as we turn the lights out, switch the flashlights on… and step back into the 19th century!
Learn about the life and times of one of Muskingum County’s most influential founding families, from the early years and new business prospects at Adams Mill, through the years of Civil War and the family’s heroic efforts to support the belief that all men are created equal. Learn about the joys, the tragedies and sorrows that befell this patriotic family during a remarkable period of growth, change and strife. We will also be discussing the various legends that surround the estate, even some of the ghosts that still call Prospect Place home.
After the tour, you are welcome to explore the Mansion and estate and do a little ghost hunting of your own, to see for yourself if the legends are true. Bring a flashlight, camera, and perhaps a voice-recorder; there’s no telling what you’ll discover.
6:00 pm – Gates open (Do not access the grounds until the gates are opened.)
6:30 pm – Mansion opens
7:00 pm – Guided tour begins
For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, no one will be admitted after 7:30 pm.
All proceeds benefit the restoration and preservation of Historic Prospect Place Estate.
Since we frequently receive questions from participants, we thought it would be a good idea to let you know what you can bring, and what you can expect, as you venture into the dark on what is certain to be a paranormal adventure! Please pay attention to local weather conditions, particularly during very hot stretches. The Board of Trustees reserves the right to cancel and reschedule Flashlight Tours when extreme weather conditions create unsafe conditions.
After checking in and signing the mandatory waiver, we begin the evening with a walk-through tour with a trained staff member, providing historic context to the Mansion; the people who lived there, the legends, and of course the paranormal hot spots. As an interesting footnote, since the new Board of Trustees took over in the spring of 2017, followed by a massive clean-up and the resumption of restoration, we seem to have stirred up some ghostly activity. Footsteps in empty rooms and hallways have become commonplace. Additionally, shadowy apparitions and disembodied voices have also become much more frequent. So, besides a flashlight, it’s a good idea to bring some type of recording device and a camera. There’s no telling what you’re liable to catch, usually when you least expect it. Of course, you are welcome to bring your battery powered ghost hunting devices.
Unlike other paranormal venues that assign you to groups and often restrict your movement during a Flashlight Tour, Prospect Place prides itself on providing an atmosphere and experience that allows you freedom of movement and freedom of choice; investigate with others or on your own, it’s totally up to you. We do, however, ask that you be respectful to the property, the spirits, and the other participants. Spirit provoking is NOT allowed, nor is smudging, use of Ouija boards, or ritual practices. Please respect the Mansion and the spirits who still call it home.
Though we have running water and an indoor bathroom, the water is not potable. Bottled water will be provided. You are welcome to bring food, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages. Prospect Place has a zero-tolerance policy on alcohol and drugs — so don’t even think about it. Smoking and vaping is permitted outside. Please put cigarette butts in the receptacle adjacent to the main entrance. There is also electrical service throughout most of the Mansion.
6:00 pm – Gates open. Do not access the estate from the adjacent private driveway. If you arrive before the gates open, please wait on the grass at the main entrance.
6:30 pm – Mansion opens.
7:00 pm – Guided tour begins.
Please be on time! For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED AFTER 7:30 pm. Donations are nonrefundable.
Though you are free to leave at any time, we ask that you remain on the grounds for the duration of your investigation. Once you depart the grounds, you will not be readmitted. This is your time at the Mansion; make the most of it, stay safe, and have fun! The Flashlight Tour begins promptly at 7:00 pm and officially ends at 11:00 pm.
